Where to experience
The Planet remembers everything
Road to
Revelation
Every Final Fantasy VII game, film, and novel — in the order they were released, ranked by how much they matter before you play Final Fantasy VII: Revelation.
Rough estimates: one normal playthrough per game, about 40 pages an hour for the novels.
How to read the road
The original game, Remake Intergrade, and Rebirth. Revelation is a direct continuation of these three. Nothing else is mandatory.
Crisis Core and Advent Children. The trilogy already assumes you know these characters and images.
Novels and side games that deepen the cast. A story recap or wiki summary gets you most of the value.
Japan-only releases, shut-down mobile games, and 25-minute OVAs. For completionists and the incurably curious.
The shortest road
Original → Remake Intergrade → Rebirth. About 175 hours. You'll understand everything Revelation asks of you.
The recommended road
Original → Crisis Core Reunion → Advent Children → Remake Intergrade → Rebirth. About 195 hours. Adds Zack, Deepground, and the film's imagery.
The full Compilation
Everything on this page, in release order. Around 245 hours — reserve a season. Bring tissues for Zack twice.

☕ Tip JarAbout
Release order shows each work as it was published, which is how the story was meant to unfold. Timeline order sorts by in-universe chronology, with Revelation always at the end of the road. Progress is stored only on this device — nothing is sent anywhere.
